W. F. Thompson whose native home
was Crestline, Iowa, came to Kansas in 1885. He was engaged in
general farming and livestock business eight years. On April 11,
1892 hw was married To Effie L Anderson. Mr. Thomson formed a
partner ship in the mercantile business with Geo. W. Krouse on Jan.
1, 1894. He was later associated with J. M. Wempe when Wempe bought
the Krouse interest in 1902. In 1906 Mr. Thompson sold to Wempe and
Hurter to go into the real estate business in which he was
active until 1920 when he and Mrs. Thompson move to Topeka. His
record has shown he has sold land in 66 counties and has owned real-estate in 36 counties. Mr. Thompson assisted in the organization of
the Citizens State Bank of Seneca Sept. 1 1894 and has been
vice president of the bank for many years. He is the only original
stockholder alive today. \
He served ten years on the Seneca
Board of Education, four years as school treasure, 12 years as
superintendent of the Methodist Sunday School and 25 years as
members of the Official Board of the church.
During the World War Mr. Thompson was county chairman
in the sale of Victory Bonds and received a medal from the U S
Treasure when Nemaha County bought more bonds than any other in the
state according to population. He was chairman of the Red Cross sale
in Seneca which more than $14,000 in Cash from Seneca and its
immediate vicinity.
For over 20 ears he has been a member of the
board of Magee Clothing Co., Lincoln, Nebraska. The past eight years
he has been on the Executive Board of the Methodist Home of Aged in
Topeka for the past two years he has bee president of
the home. An appraiser of real estate Corporation
has taken him into seven different states.
