The Pony Express is located
on the same corner where the original Smith Hotel was located 1n 1860,
except it is to the N/E instead of the S/W of the intersection at Fourth
and Main. .
Located on 4th and Main Street
across the street from the Pony Express Monument. The Museum houses
memorabilia from the Pony Express era (1860 - 1862), includes buggies
and a blacksmith shop. On display at the museum is an Olympic torch from
the 1996 Olympic Relay. The museum also assists with the Pony Express
Re-ride held annually in June. There is also on of the oldest Jail's
which is constructed of 2 x 4's.
The Pony Express is housed
on one of the old building in at 315 Main. Seneca, Kansas. The building was
the Siomons Fair Grocery about 1900. The building is pictured to the left. The
street is lined with buildings from the as far back as the 1800's and
early 1900's. The streets are of a very few are left in the
Midwest that is still are paved with brick. Many of the buildings lining
this street and elsewhere in the town, are rich with historical lore.
The three blocks from third to Six and a bit beyond are now on the
Historical Register. Their facades reveal dates of establishments
from the 1800s and many others attest to their use at the turn of the
century.
Seneca has been and still is
a town that looked to the future with it's brick streets, and new homes
being built in all parts of the town as well as around the new golf Course.
There is a , new Golf Course and plans for new pool. There are many homes
that date into the 1800's and have a great deal of history with them. It is
a well kept up city there are those in the city that plan on it keeping it
this way well into the future. We have lost some very interesting
buildings before there was the interest to preserve them. Today with the
helps of grants and the know-how to preserve these treasures. There is
much interest in preserving all our Historic Buildings,
